Recent proposals by the UK National Health Service (NHS) to withdraw surgery for overweight patients has brought in a new flood of cases, for example, as reported by ABC (Australian Broadcasting Corporation) in Australia featuring Averill Dollery, a 66 year old from Worcester who suffered with chronic back pain for almost 13 years because the NHS Doctors in England refused to help her until she lost significant amount of weight. Averill and her husband, Roger felt totally neglected by the NHS system. The Taj Medical Group, although could not promise that their Surgeons in India would operate agreed to arrange an assessment for Averill in New Delhi. After 3 days of comprehensive tests and medical assessments the Surgeons agreed to operate to relieve a trapped nerve in Averill's back. The operation was a total success.

The estimate for the hospital bill alone would be close to $100,000 - and they would like to receive "half up front, and the rest on a payment plan." The surgeon, the valve, Cardiologist, Anaesthesiologist, Radiologist, Pathologist, and any prescriptions will bring the total up to the neighbourhood of a staggering $200,000, if there are no complications.

Howard successfully underwent a mitral valve replacement surgery at our Escorts hospital in New Delhi, under the care of our lead Surgeon Dr Naresh Trehan. Total bill: about $10,000, including round-trip airfare and a planned side trip to the Taj Mahal.

"The Indian doctors, they did such a fine job here, and took care of us so well," said Staab, a gentle, ponytailed bicycling enthusiast who was accompanied to India by his partner, Maggi Grace. "I would do it again."
